Simple Ways to Pamper Your Skin

A girl with beautiful skinThe numerous methods we at Anti Aging Toronto Clinic use to beautify your skin are just a part of the ways you can remedy and prevent various skin problems and delay the signs of aging. Many simple and healthy choices available in everyday life will contribute to your overall skin health and can be done either on their own or in concert with any of our treatments. If you want the most natural, effective means of keeping your skin pampered, try some of these tips.

Sun Protection

Wrinkles, age spots, and skin cancer are just some of the issues too much sunlight exposure can cause. While you don’t want to be a total recluse come summer, keep in mind that the sun’s rays are strongest between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. If you want to spend some time lounging at the beach or outside of shade, try to schedule it outside of this timeframe. You’ll still get the warmth and glow, but avoid the worst of the heat and glare. Sunscreen is, of course, always helpful. A broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 15 should be reapplied every two hours—more frequently if you go swimming.

Don’t Smoke, or Quit

Smoking is known for damaging the teeth and nails, but it also harms your skin. Smoking will narrow the blood vessels in the outer layers of your skin, meaning decreased blood flow and decreased oxygen and nutrients. It also damages collagen and elastic, the substances that make skin strong and flexible. As if this wasn’t bad enough, the repeated pursing of the lips and squinting to avoid smoke that inevitably occurs can contribute to developing wrinkles. Speak to your doctor about treatments that can help you stop smoking. Your skin, and your lungs, will thank you.

Be Gentle with Your Skin

Skin is stronger than we commonly think, but less so than we tend to treat it. Things like long showers or rough shaves can deplete the skin of important oils and dry it out. Try to keep time spent in the shower or bath to a minimum and use warm water. While washing yourself, use mild cleansers rather than the strong soaps and detergents that can strip your skin of oil. Afterwards, pat dry instead of wiping to leave some water behind that your skin can drink up and moisturize with. When shaving, use shaving cream or gel along with a clean, sharp razor to keep your skin protected and lubricated. The best results also come when you shave in the direction the hair grows.

Simple But Effective

If any of this sounds simple, that’s because it is. Your skin is not the most complicated part of your body. It has easily defined needs that can be recognized and accommodated with only a minimal effort. In fact, the most complicated step might be finding a skincare specialist to talk to for further advice. Or it would, if Anti Aging Toronto Clinic didn’t have the GTA’s top beauticians available to both answer skincare questions and provide any one of our top-of-the-line treatments.
