Four Ways to Prepare Your Skin for Spring

Posted By: Lic. Silvia Derasner | February 13th, 2017 | Blog

skincare routine Taking care of your skin during the winter months can be a lot of work. Cold, dry air can cause your skin to become cracked, dry, and sore. Freezing temperatures can also make your skin feel tight and uncomfortable. Thankfully, there are ways to prep your skin for spring and heal it before the sunnier days arrive. Even during winter the sun can do damage to your skin, so there’s no better time than the present to get into a routine to protect your skin in spring to keep it healthy and glowing. Don’t wait another minute—now is the time to boost your spring skin care!

Add Moisture and Hydration to Your Skin

You’ve heard this simple rule a thousand times, so why wait another day? Drinking more water has endless benefits for your skin and for your entire body. Increasing water consumption as part of your skincare routine manages your appetite, helps you digest fat more easily, detoxifies the body, and prevents dry, chapped skin. If you dislike the taste of water and find it boring, you can infuse it with flavour by adding slices of cucumber, watermelon, or lemon!

Use Less Makeup

As the temperature warms up and the sun shines brighter, you may notice your skin appearing shinier than usual. This isn’t a sign to overdo your makeup to conceal the shine of your skin. Instead, balance out your makeup by focusing on your T-zone. Use a light powder to conceal the shine in those areas, and stick to light, velvety lip textures. You can also pat lipstick on with your fingertips to get a transparent, lightly pigmented look. Another important point to keep in mind is that your pores need to be clear to breathe. Applying heavy makeup can clog you pores, leading to breakouts and acne. The less makeup your wear, the more your skin can breathe. Swap out your foundation for a tinted moisturizer, and take time to pamper your skin so you won’t even need makeup!

Exfoliate Your Skin

This step is extremely important for maintaining healthy skin. Dead skin cells pile up and block new cells from shining through. If you don’t exfoliate, your skin can look dry, flaky, and lacklustre. Exfoliation promotes the growth of younger, healthier skin, so your summer glow can be at its best. You don’t even need to buy expensive products—simply make a mixture of melted coconut oil and raw sugar and gently massage it into your face once a week. Rinse, and enjoy the silky feeling and bright skin!

Embrace Your Sweaty Glow

No one likes the look of melted makeup on top of sweaty skin. If you spend a lot of time outdoors during spring, powdery textures will not mix well. Instead, use a light cream concealer for the spots that need it, and carry blotting papers to dab away oil and extra shine. Focusing on your nose, chin, cheeks, and forehead will help you look fresh-faced all day.
