Combined Effects from Platelet-Rich Plasma Treatments and Laser Treatments

anti aging treatmentOne of the benefits of having numerous anti aging treatments available today is that new ways to combine and amplify their effects are always being discovered. Take for instance the way that platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments can enhance the effects of Spectra Peel or Genesis laser facials. The combined benefit is based on the fact that each treatment can either supplement the effects of PRP therapy on the skin or otherwise compensate for the drawbacks of aggressive use.

What is Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy?

PRP achieves skin rejuvenation through the use of growth factors already present in your own blood. During a PRP treatment, your blood is drawn and spun in a centrifuge to produce a concentrated solution of growth factors. This solution is then injected into the target areas of your face and scalp, usually in areas with things like wrinkles or acne scars. The sudden influx of growth factors makes the body think that a significant injury has occurred, mobilizing its repair mechanisms and spurring collagen production to restore the imperfection.

How Do Spectra Peel Laser Treatments Work?

Spectra Peel treatments work through the use of a carbon solution that is applied to the skin and allowed to seep into your pores. After the carbon settles, the Spectra Peel laser is used to heat up and “pop” the carbon. This (miniature) explosive effect expels any debris or other clogs within the pore, which are then sucked up by a vacuum. Not only does a Spectra Peel laser treat acne, it also treats enlarged pores and can prevent future outbreaks for roughly half a year.

Genesis Laser Facial Treatments for Skin Rejuvenation

The Genesis laser is a form of laser rejuvenation treatment that uses an ND Yag laser—a beam that is divided into thousands of tiny columns of light. These columns allow for precise application and deep skin penetration. As a result, Genesis treatments can address issues like rosacea, fine lines or wrinkles that exist by providing an overproduction of collagen.

How Lasers Work With PRP Treatments

The Spectra Peel and Genesis lasers can both work well alongside PRP therapy, but for different reasons. For Spectra Peel, the two are able to work together to improve acne scars results. For the Genesis laser, PRP allows for more direct and powerful therapies.

PRP and Spectra Peel

PRP treatments are able to resolve acne scars but have no impact on your likelihood of future outbreaks or on any spots of acne you are currently experiencing. Spectra Peel lasers, on the other hand, can relieve acne and prevent future outbreaks but are not able to impact deep dermal scars on your body. Combining the two, therefore, produces a more comprehensive effect that mends acne scars, puts a halt to current acne outbreaks, and can keep future ones from happening for up to six months.

PRP and Genesis

The Genesis laser is a very precise but also very powerful tool. One of the drawbacks of this is that there is a risk of side effects like erythema (redness from irritated blood vessels) or edema (fluid buildup) if it is used too aggressively. Unfortunately, aggressive treatments are sometimes needed in cases of intense rosacea, or other vascular problems. PRP, meanwhile, works by giving the body’s repair mechanisms a firm kick in the pants to jump start and accelerate the healing process. When the two are put together, PRP enhancements allow for aggressive Genesis use since any side effects can be more speedily resolved.
